Ever since Brad & Melissa’s proposal, a lot of people have asked me how Aaron proposed to me. So here is the story:
We had been dating for about 6 months, but we already knew we were going to get married (shoot, we knew the first week we started dating!). So in April of 2006, he said that we needed to fly home for a weekend to celebrate his parents’ anniversary. So we bought the tickets, got on the plane and landed in Albuquerque. But no one was at the airport to pick us up. Aaron checked his voicemail, and his mom had left him a message explaining that everybody was too busy to pick us up, but she had left her car in the parking lot for us earlier that day. So we got our luggage and headed to find her car.
Once we got in the car, Aaron said that he wanted to drive around for a little bit before we headed home since it would be the only time we would get to spend alone together. So he started driving up the Sandia Mountain. I kinda had a sneaky suspicion by then, and I could not stop smiling. I glanced over at his pant pockets to see if I could find the ring, but nope – his pants were smooth! He had purchased the ring and had it mailed directly to his parents’ house so that there would be no hope of me finding it. His mom had wrapped it in some tissue paper and put it in the pocket of the driver’s side door in her car. Sneaky sneaky!
By the time we got to the top of the mountain, I had been monitoring the air temperature outside as it plummetted down to below freezing. “This better be good!” As we pulled up, he pointed out my window and said, “Look at those trees!” I turned and saw … trees. Don’t know what kind they were. But I said, “Oh yeah! So pretty!” Turns out that he had spotted 2 of his sisters and was trying to distract me so that I wouldn’t see them! They were there to document the proposal!
Before we got out of the car, he said that since it was so cold, there were a couple of jackets in the back. Of course there were! So we put them on quickly (and of course, as he got out of the car, he slipped the ring into his pocket) and ran to the viewing deck. It was cold & windy! I looked around for 2 seconds, and then I saw a bouquet of pink flowers in the corner. He ran over to get them, and I started screaming, “I knew it! I knew it!” And then he proposed.

After we hugged, I said, “Is there anything else?” “Nope, just dinner.” “Okay, let’s get back to the car cuz I’m freezing!” So we ran back into the car, and I said, “We need to get back in time for your parents’ anniversary dinner!” Was it their anniversary? Nope. Another lie!
And that is our story. 4 months later we got married. I don’t waste time!
If I don’t know your proposal story, I’d love to hear it!
