Paul remembers what she was wearing the first time he saw her. At a local restaurant. On a blind date. As soon as he saw her, he knew. He knew that they would have a great dinner together. He knew that they would talk for hours. But did he know she would be his wife? Umm, probably not quite at that moment.
A year later, one of Amanda’s friends finally got engaged after several years of coupledom. And apparently, the proposal was rather spectacular. It’s about time!!! Amanda said. If you don’t know after 6-12 months of dating, why waste time??? That’s why I love this girl – she’s such a straight shooter. Her comment lit a little fire under Paul’s rear. Yes, he knew he wanted to marry her, but now he knew that there was a bit of a timetable. He had no clue how to top this guy’s proposal, so he did the best thing he knew.
Amanda had always been fond of scrapbooks, so while she was away at training camp, he created a scrapbook filled with memories from their relationship. They traveled to the Gulf of Texas for a family event, and his plan was to show her the scrapbook on the beach right at sunset. She squealed as she flipped through each page, just excited that she now had a scrapbooking buddy. And when she reached the last page, he got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife.
I am so unbelievably honored to have photographed their big day. Their love and commitment to one another is so real, almost tangible. The way they look at each other, I could almost reach out and touch it. Their wedding was shorter than most, ending at 7:30 pm, but like I told Amanda, I feel like we came away with so many more photographs than normal. There were just so many awesome things to capture.
As always, a HUGE thanks goes out to Josh, my second shooter.
A tender moment with her father

The flag in honor of Paul’s father

Paul washed Amanda’s feet. It was such an amazing moment of humility.

First kiss! Looks like it went well.

We caught some beautiful light in the church. They decided not to see each other before the ceremony, but they’ve requested to do a post-wedding shoot!

Love, love, LOVE the coloring in this picture. We didn’t have to use our flash once!

Best moment of the night: when Amanda’s brother caught the garter. And he roared, “I am victorious!!!” Roared.
